John Walter Shaw, the oldest child of Greenville and Martha Shaw, was born Oct. 7, 1882, at Gadsden, Alabama. He died July 2, 1952. He attended school at Center Point and Blountsville and was married to Georgia Lee Stisher on Dec. 25, 1904. She was born at Crossville, Alabama, Sept. 2, 1883, and died April 7, 1953.
Soon after marriage they moved to Cullman, Alabama, where he was employed by C. A. Stiefelmeyer, later moving to Berlin, Alabama, were Earney Shaw was born April 24, 1906. This same year the Walter Shaw family moved to Holly Pond, Alabama, where he and his father operated a general store under the name of G. V. Shaw & Son. The name was changed in 1930 to J. W. Shaw & Son.
